Supporting agriculture that respects the environment

At Crédit Agricole, we have been actively supporting initiatives to protect the environment for several years already. We see helping to develop integrated and organic farming as being just as self-evident as it is essential.

Encouraging intergrated farming

In partnership with FARRE ( Forum de l’agriculture raisonnée respectueuse de l’Environnement ) , Crédit Agricole has carried out a series of communication campaigns to:

  • raise awareness of innovative, environment-friendly practices among farmers,
  • tell city-dwellers about the improvements made by the farming industry.

Crédit Agricole is also taking part in the Agriculture & Biodiversity programme alongside the French League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) and FARRE. The five-year programme (2004-2009) is designed to improve biodiversity on about 130 farms in 18 departments.

The aim is to adapt best environmental practices to each farm while ensuring that they are taken up on a large scale.

Promoting organic farming

Our role in organic farming is expanding as a result of our partnership with BIO, the French agency for the development and promotion of organic farming, initiated in late 2007.

In 2009, with the agency, we launched the Bio Excellence Awards for innovations by firms and other players in the organic farming sector.

The aim is to demonstrate the dynamism, inventiveness and high-level technical skills of the organic farming business and encourage the pooling of existing know-how.

The Sud Rhône-Alpes regional bank has recently launched CA’BIO, an innovative scheme to support farmers who decide to go organic. The scheme includes a set of financing solutions, such as a 3.50% four-year loan, to cushion the fall in yields when farms convert to organic methods and to help meet the increased working capital requirement.

By creating CA’BIO, the bank will help its farmer customers by offering them a set of solutions suited to their situation.
