For many years, we have supported schemes to protect the environment. This is illustrated by our collaboration with the “Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux”, with Agence Bio, and also WWF France.
THE “LIGUE DE PROTECTION DES OISEAUX”
Crédit Agricole has teamed up with the France’s Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux (LPO) since 2006, in order to review the state of biodiversity on 160 farms and offer suggestions for possible improvements.
Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines awarded birdlife sanctuary certification
France’s Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux (LPO) society for the protection of birdlife, awards special certification to companies embarking on an environmentally responsible policy aimed at the development of wild fauna and flora. The natural areas of sanctuaries must not undergo any chemical treatment. The campus at Saint-Quentin near Versailles was recently audited by LPO experts at the request of the Sustainable Development department and Crédit Agricole Immobilier; they identified 129 plant species and 29 species of birds, two-thirds of them protected. Among others, the naturalists observed the presence in the park of European common frogs (Rana temporaria) and foxes.
The upkeep of green spaces without the use of weed-killers and the diversity of wild life present on the Saint-Quentin site earned it recognition as an LPO bird sanctuary.
THE PARTNERSHIP WITH “L’AGENCE BIO”
This work has broadened to include organic farming, due largely to a partnership with Agence BIO, the French agency for developing and promoting organic farming, which was renewed in 2011 with a second set of awards in this area. This competition has brought attention and interest to the innovative work of organizations and businesses in the production, processing and distribution of organic foods. The aim is to present the organic farming industry as an innovative and dynamic sector, while fostering an exchange of expertise. In addition, a manual was put together with Agence BIO to help its farm agents in financing organic producers.
Crédit Agricole S.A. joined forces with WWF France from 2010 to 2012. As a result of this partnership, Crédit Agricole has supported three programmes run by the NGO:
• the fight against climate change and the development of a sustainable habitat;
• the protection of oceans and coasts;
• the preservation and protection of forests.
At the same time, Crédit Agricole S.A. has joined forces with WWF France to set up a number of projects to reduce the direct and indirect impact of the banking sector on the environment and to develop responsible banking products with the help of the WWF. Initiatives carried out thanks to this collaboration include the formalization and publication of a Group-wide responsible paper policy and the organisation of an employee competition to award those who demonstrate eco-friendly behaviours.
