Crédit Agricole subsidiary Cariparma FriulAdria has been named Best Italian Banking Group in the "Major Groups" category in the rankings published by Banca Finanza* for 2009. Scooping the award for the second year running, the group has confirmed its top place not just in the general ranking but also in the ratings for financial strength and profitability. Cariparma FriulAdria's solid, recurring profits prove that it has "confirmed its historical supremacy," according to the magazine.

What is more, the group has once again been awarded a five-star rating in the Lombard Super Index and has taken second place in the roster of leading Italian banking groups. These enviable rankings recognise the group's prowess in cost control, return on equity and credit risk management. The two awards are especially noteworthy because they were earned in a difficult climate marked by fallout from the economic and financial crisis.

* Banca Finanza is Italy's leading monthly finance magazine. Every year it draws up a ranking of Italian credit institutions based on an analysis of their performance and balance sheet data.
