François de Combret has been appointed Senior Advisor to Calyon Crédit Agricole CIB, reporting directly to Gilles de Dumast, the Calyon Senior General Manager in charge of coverage and investment banking. Prior to joining Calyon, he had been Senior Advisor to UBS Investment Bank in Paris since January 2006.

François de Combret entered ENA as his year's highest-scoring student and is an honorary public auditor at the French treasury. He was an economic and industrial affairs advisor to Valéry Giscard d'Estaing first at the Ministry of the Economy and Finance (1971-1974) and then when the latter became President of France in 1974 and until 1978, before being appointed Deputy General Secretary from 1978 to 1981. He joined Lazard in 1982 where, after three years in New York, he became the managing partner of the bank in Paris for more than 20 years (1985 - 2005). While with Lazard, he managed major privatization programs (including Renault, France Telecom and Aérospatiale), and took part in many M&A transactions, including the creation of EADS and Safran, the alliance between Renault and Nissan and PPR's acquisition of Yves Saint Laurent.

François de Combret is a member of Safran's supervisory board and a director of Bouygues Telecom and Nexans.
