$152 000 Bn amount of the worldwide debt as of mid-2016

This was the amount of the worldwide debt as of mid-2016, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

This record high represent more than twice the size of the entire world economy, and is a result of the very low rates.

The IMF noted that this gigantic debt had been insufficient to restart the global economy, that there is no clear answer as to how it will be repaid, and that a putative increase in rates constitutes a risk to developed countries, where most of the debt is concentrated, except for China.
