World wine production down by 5% year-on-year
According to the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, global wine production amounted to 259 million hectolitres (Mhl) this year, down 5% on last year.
The weather was the main culprit, especially in Latin America where El Nino-related rainfall caused volumes to fall 20-50%.
The weather also hit France, with the smallest harvest in 30 years and wine production down 12%.
Italy remains the top producing country in 2016 with 48.8 Mhl, ahead of France's 41.9 Mhl and Spain's 37.8 Mhl.
