THE ISSUE
The main environmental impact of banking services is often indirect. Is it possible to shrink the environmental footprint of the everyday activities of the Crédit Agricole Group?
OUR RESPONSE
Pioneer of the environmental bank card, Crédit Agricole is rolling out a card recycling service, delivering expired cards in complete safety to a partner recycler. Its partner Umicore works in all recycling phases and guarantees full traceability by processing materials exclusively on its site and leaving behind no waste. The precious metals contained in a card - silver, palladium, copper and gold - are purified and reused in the automotive and electronic industries. The aim is to structure a French and European network of card supply and recycling.
In parallel, Crédit Agricole is innovating with a 100% plant-based bank card made out of non-GMO corn starch. As customer payment cards are renewed, the cards in circulation will be gradually replaced between now and 2017.

Raising consumer awareness of the recycling of a widely-used object like a bank card is fundamental.
