On 12 March, Dominique Lefebvre, Chairman of Crédit Agricole S.A. and FNCA, and Samuel Vandaele, President of France Carbon Agri, announced to the press the partnership launch of Carbioz.
Carbioz is a transaction solution involving voluntary carbon credits produced by French farmers for economic players looking to promote collective carbon neutrality.
Because numerous regional players - companies, local authorities and associations - will still be emitting greenhouse gases in 2050, the achievement of “Net Zero” requires an improvement in the performance of natural carbon sinks. In other words, we need to actively encourage agriculture and forestry to contribute to the low-carbon transition by absorbing the incompressible emissions of other economic sectors.
Thousands of farms supported by France Carbon Agri have already embarked on a sustainable transition approach that complies with the Low-Carbon Label managed by the French Ministry of the Ecological Transition. They have committed to reducing their carbon footprint by making changes to their agricultural practices and by storing carbon. These practices are also beneficial in terms of biodiversity, soil preservation and water quality.
Carbioz recommends that companies, local authorities and associations in our regions offer financial support to these farms and in return receive GHG emission reduction certificates (“carbon credits”) from the French State, that they can promote in their regulatory reporting (CSRD) and to their customers, employees, etc. |
