Creation of the « Grameen - Crédit Agricole Microfinance Foundation
Crédit Agricole S.A. with 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Muhammad Yunus creates €50 million “Grameen-Crédit Agricole Microfinance Foundation”
Crédit Agricole S.A. today announced the creation of “The Grameen-Crédit Agricole Microfinance Foundation” aimed at promoting the development of microfinance institutions in developing countries and emerging economies. Crédit Agricole S.A. has teamed up with the Grameen Trust and the founder and managing director of Grameen Bank, Professor Muhammed Yunus, winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for his achievements in reducing poverty through the use of micro-credit. Crédit Agricole S.A. has committed an initial 50 million euros and a specialised team of professionals to the Foundation. This is the first time that a large global banking group has partnered with the Grameen Trust for an initiative of this scale.
