#EconomyChina: confidence, price war and credibility are the watchwords in this early part of the year
2024/03/26
Understanding how FReD works
FReD is based on the 3 sets of standards established by the business lines (i.e. the 3 CSR pillars: economic, social and environmental) to create a framework for their entities’ actions:
For the economic segment : FIDES,
For the social segment : RESPECT,
For the environmental segment : DEMETER,
Each of these themes is associated with 19 commitments. Entities must choose 4 areas for each set of standards and organise at least 12 projects.

Once the priorities have been set...
... Action plans are drawn up
To be operational, they must have five characteristics:
- a governance structure
- a deadline
- a budget
- an indicator
- quantified targets...
FReD is more than just a support tool; it is also a yardstick designed to assess and monitor the progress of each project.
Action plans are divided into four stages to simplify progress assessment :
1 • MANAGE: A policy without any action underteken
2 • ROLL OUT: Objectives achieved within 50%
3 • FINALISE: Objectives achieved at 50% or more
4 • IMPLEMENT: Results that exceed targetsOne progress point is earned when the plan moves to the next level.
Because FReD was conceived to be objective, it assesses progress rather than absolute values.
Year after year, the average of each entity’s self-assessments is used to compute the Group’s overall progress on the FReD Index.
