To the question: Can technological transformation be sustainable? The Crédit Agricole Group answers yes and demonstrates it. This is particularly true of its responsible IT initiatives such as the ecoCode challenge organised last June: the first open-source hackathon focused on ecodesign.
This approach, which is part of an ambition to reduce the company’s environmental footprint, was recognised with an award on Friday 25 November at the annual Netexplo Change conference, which was broadcast live and replayed on the netexplo.com website.
This event, which took place on the stage of the Echos auditorium, highlights large companies with an innovative transformation initiative.
Among the 80 projects selected, 4 projects were chosen as winners by a jury chaired by Julien Lévy and Jean-Rémi Gratadour from HEC Paris and composed of a dozen decision-makers from major companies and partner members of the Netexplo Change Awards.
The ecoCode challenge project, led by Véronique Chastrusse and Thierry Griselain from Crédit Agricole SA's Group Technologies & Digital Division, and Rémi Sellem, head of innovation at CA-GIP, was awarded the Netexplo Change Tech & Sustainability prize.
This collective project, designed by the Group with the participation of more than 40 partners, has resulted in the development of SonarQube: a software package that assists in the detection, classification and resolution of defects in source code. Thanks to the ecoCode Challenge and in order to reduce the environmental impact of the operation of the software developed, new code control capabilities have been integrated into this solution. This work has been done in open-source mode: every person producing code in the company can benefit from it.
This first edition brought together 60 developers in an hybrid format: on the one hand face-to-face at Simplon, an inclusive digital school located in Montreuil, and on the other hand remotely. Two days during which "coding" rhymed with "eco-design".
This initiative is fully in line with the Group's social project and its Green IT and CSR roadmap, and perfectly embodies our transformation towards an eco-responsible IT.
